At Ascendo Consulting, our focus is on assisting you to get the results you want. That is the "bottom line". Since each client's situation is unique, there is no one way to do this. One size does not fit all!
Coaching, consulting, training and facilitation are all methods of delivery that can be used to help you move forward. They are different tools and instruments, not ends in themselves. Each has its own purpose, depending upon your needs and desires. At

Individual Coaching:
In a nutshell, coaching is about helping people make decisions that are effective for them, and that move them toward the results they want to achieve. Whether you are making a career transition or working to improve your leadership capability, the process is similar. Coaching builds capacity for making key decisions and solving problems. Our aim, as effective coaches, is to work ourselves out of a job so that you can "fly" on your own. You can benefit greatly from the Strategy Focused Coaching System outlined below to help you make effective decisions, create appropriate plans, and act in alignment with what is most important to you.
Coaching in Organizations:
Ascendo Consulting uses the
Strategy Focused Developmental Coaching SystemŽ
, developed by Mike Jay for B\Coach Systems LLC and Leadership University. This system has been proven effective by top-flight coaches across North America and beyond. Our coaching team members have been trained in this system and have taught it to other coaches. The Strategy Focused system was designed to make highly effective use of coaching within your organization, by bringing the strength of the organization to bear on the coaching interaction. Your organization, not the coach, has power, accountability, authority and responsibility around coaching, creating powerful motivation and support for the person being coached, and encouraging alignment between his or her goals and those of the organization. Strategy Focused Coaching helps you get the results you want. While the coaching itself is confidential, there is no mystery around what is taking place.
The basic coaching process is simple in concept: Where are you now? Where do you want to be? How will you get from here to there? Achieving the desired results is not so simple.
Coaching can help you address your issues and move forward with understanding and confidence. There is no magic wand or quick fix. To be effective, coaching takes time. Individual sessions can be brief, but development takes place over a period of at least three months. Six months is the recommended timeframe to address any one issue.

Consulting:
While coaches and facilitators are experts in process, consultants, like trainers, are experts in content. Consultants provide answers and recommendations when you have questions about what to do. Our areas of expertise at Ascendo Consulting include:

Training:
Trainers teach skills. Whether it is career focusing and job-search skills; leadership, management and team-building competencies; or writing, presentation, listening and inter-personal skills, we provide training customized to your needs.

Facilitation:
Facilitators work with client groups to help them find their own answers. This is done by guiding your team though a process that enables you to focus on what is most important to you and to your organization, on what you want to achieve, and on the most effective ways to accomplish your goals. Our emphasis in facilitating is to help clients move beyond trying to fix something that is a problem. Instead, we assist them to achieve clarity about the situation that they want to create, and to focus on how they can build upon their own strengths and experience to achieve what they want. Problems are addressed, but they tend to disappear as the team drives forward. Energy and motivation to move forward are created by looking forward and by appreciating the power of existing strengths, not by getting stuck on problems.

The Advantages of Flexible Delivery:
With flexible delivery, Ascendo Consulting meets your needs in the way that is most effective for you. For example, coaching is a very effective tool for helping you move forward. If, however, you need specific skills that you do not possess, training is the most effective and efficient method of delivery.
Training alone, however, has limited effectiveness, especially when it is conducted outside your usual workplace. When you return from training, you may be swamped with the work that has piled up in your absence. Despite your good intentions, you may never make effective use of what you have learned, unless it is built into your on-going work. Training supplemented by coaching, however, is highly effective, because the coach helps you integrate your learning, a much better return on investment.
Consulting is very effective in bringing outside expertise to you. Add coaching to the mix, and facilitation perhaps, to help people buy into the desired changes, and you will see much more effective learning, buy-in, and implementation.
